It is a fact that all construction sites are not a hundred percent safe even though concerned authorities promise so. Forms of scaffolding accident may happen anytime and they can catch construction workers and passers-by off guard. Generally, scaffolds are quite towering. They are quite unstable to depend on as well because their assembly is just meant for temporary use. With these, it is ideal that certain measures must be observed to guarantee protection for all the people in the area.
The two practices which must be highly regarded in connection to this issue are avoidance of misuse and placement of the entire system on stable places. The latter is a key step as far as safety in the construction site is concerned. In connection to this, all workers must scrutinize whether the scaffolding system they are to use is properly assembled even before they climb on it and begin with their tasks.
An entire system or tower is composed of varied parts. The most visible of these parts are the frames, platforms, brackets, and supports. During the inspection, the workers must check all the metal parts. They should be dent-free and rust-free. Presence of dents and rust can harm the integrity of the entire tower. This could mean that it is no longer fit to carry heavy weight all at the same time; thus, falls may follow short after. The tower is also made of wooden parts just like the platforms and other objects used for support. In this matter, check the woods for cracks or presence of termites. Again, cracked or deteriorating platforms may be equivalent to mishaps.
As mentioned earlier, any scaffolding accident may be avoided when every part of the tower is properly used. Whenever possible, workers must refrain from overloading the entire tower. Therefore, workers must leave on the ground unnecessary things which may add to the total weight that the tower carries. They should only bring with them their tools and the needed construction materials.
Moving forward, there are reminders which workers must remember when climbing on the tower. As a worker climbs on, he must ensure that he is standing on a stable part that can carry his weight even when he moves. One of his hands must be firmly holding on a support which comes in the form of nearby poles or hanging ropes while the other is free to accomplish the assigned task.
There are times when a scaffolding accident is caused by bad weather conditions. Workers who will be using the tower or will simply be within its vicinity must be prepared for such phenomena. For one, they should wear the right gears just like the non-slip boots and protective gloves which are helpful in all kinds of weather. When water or snow make the platforms become extra slippery to stand on, workers must scatter sand over these smooth surfaces in order to make them anti-slip. If ever the tower is simply not fit to use under severe weather, workers must not risk their lives using it.
